Quality Management Systems |
Many hospitals and healthcare organizations in Michigan and across the country have implemented
ISO 9001:2000 as their Quality Management System. This standard has been applied to many different
types of organizations because of the generic nature of the requirements within. ISO 9001:2000
has become the most widely recognized mark of Quality in the business World. Some healthcare
organizations have combined this ISO 9001 system with some additional criteria from the
Malcolm Baldridge and JCAHO requirements (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations)
as well as the newer IWA-1 for a more specific healthcare slant to their compliance
efforts.
Suppliers to healthcare organizations are implementing still another standard
adapted from ISO 9001, which is ISO 13485, intended for medical device manufacturers.
All of these systems mentioned have similar value added results of helping implement
disciplined practices, keep more accurate records and avoid costly errors and waste.
